Workshop on “Communication Skills”

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of English of Mahatma Night Degree College organised a One Day Workshop on “Communication Skills” with a theme “Towards Winning the Goals Set” on Wednesday, the 7th March, 2018 from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the lecture hall No. 401 on the fourth floor. The workshop was mainly for the B.Ed. and Final year B.Com. students with an objective of equipping to secure a career that they are dreaming for.

After the breakfast and registration, the Workshop Secretary spoke about the three sessions by eminent resource persons from the Departments of English of various colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The Principal Dr. Padma Rangan welcomed the Guests of Honour and invited them along with the C.E.O. and the Secretary of Mahatma Education Society Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai to inaugurate the workshop by lighting the lamp. Dr. Pillai in his inaugural speech underlined the role of writing skills which is the key to open the door to enter the world of effective communication.

The first session was on “Effective Body Language” by Dr. Kanaka Lata Tiwari, the Head of the Department of Humanities form K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering, in Vidhya Vihar. The session covered the entire expressions possible through body language that can boost the skills for effective communications.

The session after the tea break was by Dr. Hemangi Bhagwat, the Senior Professor, Ex-Member of Board of Studies of University of Mumbai as well as an Associate of NAAC. The topic was “Resume Writing and Interview Techniques”. She being also a trainer to the Corporate Sector could impress the students by dictating the most modern interview techniques.

The post lunch as well as the last session was on “Non-Verbal Communication and Para-Language” by Dr. Rajesh Yeole the H.O.D. of English from Changu Kana Thakur College, New Panvel. He could literally win the best attention of the students by giving a mind-blowing lecture.

Dr. Rajesh Yeole himself was the Chief Guest for the valedictory session. The certificates were distributed to the participants by the Principal Dr. Padma Ranagn and Dr. Rajesh Yeole.

Asst. Prof. Tushar Pawar, Asst. Prof. Anaya Markandeya and Dr. Lata Krishnan introduced the guests of honour of respective sessions. Dr. Eknath Zhrekar was the incharge of registration formalities and Asst. Prof. Harsh Shukla was Incharge of Certificate writing and distribution.

The workshop concluded at 4.30 p.m. after the proposal of vote of thanks by the Workshop Secretary Asst. Prof. Chandramohan Varma.
