The students and alumni of Mahatma Night Degree College of Arts and Commerce, Chembur organized a Three Day Mega Intercollegiate Cultural Talent Competition called Talentmania – The Soul of Art on 6th, 7th and 10th January, 2018. Students from over 50 colleges, in and around Mumbai participated in this mega event.
The cultural committee of the college headed by alumni Mr. Vivek Gupta lead the team of students with zest and zeal to put together this grand cultural festival. The Organizing Committee was formulated and student volunteers team setup. Meticulous planning and brain storming lead to the preparation of the broacher and registration forms for the 14 events namely Rangoli, poster making, mehndi, face painting, nail art, tattoo making, chess, carrom, solo singing, duet singing, solo dance, group dance, bridal fashion show and fashion show.
On Saturday 6th January 2018 participants from various colleges like Mulund College of Commerce, Ambedkar College, Mahatma Jr. College of Education, D. Y. Patil College, S.I.E.S College, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Viva College, Model College of Science & Commerce etc. scurried into the campus of Mahatma Night Degree College of Arts and Commerce, Chembur the venue for the Talentmania – The Soul of Art event.
Rangoli and Poster making competitions were conducted in the ground floor Multipurpose hall of the Chembur campus. The Mehndi, Face Painting, Tattoo making and Nail Art were organized on the fourth floor, room number 401 and 404 respectively. Carroms were arranged in room number 301 on the third floor. The Bridal Fashion show was conducted in a stage setup for this purpose in the ground floor. Day 1 was a fun filled day with enthusiastic students participating in the various events. The third floor was designated as the green room area for girls and the fourth floor was the green room for boys.
Organizing committee members Vivek, Shahid, Tony, Sam, Komal Pooja, Sonu and Prathamesh were on their toes getting things organized and ensuring smooth flow of the events.
On Sunday 7th January 2018 the remaining events viz., solo singing and duet singing were organized in room number 401 of the Chembur campus. Solo dance and group dance were organized in the ground floor area. The Chess competitions happened in room number 301.
The finals of the solo singing, duet singing, solo dance and group dance was organized on 10th January, 2018 in the Fine Arts Auditorium, Chembur between 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. A spectacular fashion show was put up by the Pillai’s Designer’s Institute, Tilaknagar drawing fashion designers and fabric vendors from different parts of India to gather to watch the fabulous fashion show. Latest designs representing fresh fashion in new fabric was displayed by professional models. The fashion show was a reflection of the brand of Pillai’s Designer’s Institute which conducts Y.C.M.O.U’s Degree and Diploma programmes in Fashion Designing and Interior Designing.
The highlight of the event was the judging team! Eminent artist from the field of music and dance popular in Bollywood and TV supported our event. To name a few, we had Mr. Raja Naidu, five times over Boogie Woogie Champion and ace choreographer in Indian and Bollywood dance. Mr. Mohan Singh, India’s first Dance Championship Gold Medalist “Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega” (TV Show) Dance India Dance Season 5. Mr. Faisal Sagari, professional Beat Boxer. Mr. Shakil Shaikh, Champion Dance India Dance, Feel Season 2 – 1st. Runner Up, Ms. Kavita Thakkar, Professional Nail Artist, proprietor of Dazlenails, Matunga, Mr. Vicky Zarapkar, professional singer and entertainer, Ms. Prajakta Matonkar, professional art and craft teacher, Shahid Sayyed, Carrom and Chess Champion, Mr. Chandramohan Varma, professional violinist and Ms. Brinda Ganesh professional Indian classical singer.
The hardworking, sincere and energetic students of Mahatma Night Degree College tied sponsors for this event. Big banners like The Saraswat Co-operative Bank, The Bharat Co-operative Bank, Chavanda Metal Corporation, Shiv Timber, Quality Classes, My Gold Jewelers, Arav Swadeshi Store, Shubham Jewelers, Adarsh Computer Classes, Shivany Pandy, Sudha Shankar and UM Khanna & Company sponsored the event.
The teachers and support staff of the colleges headed by the Cultural Incharge of the college Dr. Lata Krishnan worked well together to make this event happen. This would not have been possible without the leadership of the Principal of the college Dr. Padma Rangan. She zealously spearheaded the event from start to finish!
The Management of the college supported the event wholeheartedly. Chairman and C.E.O Mahatma Education Society, Dr. K.M. Vasudevan Pillai Sir took personal interest in this mega event right from conception to delivery. Deputy C.E.O Mahatma Education Society Mr. Franav Pillai guided and supported the organizing team and hand held them to the finish. Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Sir attended the finals of the event on 10th January at the Fine Arts Auditorium, Chembur. His presence boosted the moral of the students and teachers. We thanked him profusely for his faith in us and for all his guidance and support to make Talentmania – The Soul of Art, a big success.

Talentmania 2018 – The Soul of Art was steered by an enthusiastic, hardworking head committee. Every member of this team worked sincerely and together they combined well to promote the event and tie up sponsors. Special mention must be made of Salman Khan who is himself a talented artist, singer and event manager. Kudos to him for showcasing the event and bringing in sponsors.
We congratulate the Talentmania Head Committee and their dedicated team of volunteers for their success and wish them luck in all their future endeavours. May their team spirit take Talentmania to new heights!
