Friends of Friendship Links! A meeting with members of SI Belgium
As Friendship is at the core of Soroptimist International, Soroptimists all over the world take that extra effort to meet, make new Soroptimist friends, discuss projects, identify opportunities to collaborate, make friendship links and better their efforts. Meeting Soroptimist sisters from across the globe is one of our activities as members of a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls with nearly 80,000 members in 124 countries.
On Saturday 9th November, 2018 at 6.30 p.m. in Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, Mumbai, Soroptimist of SI Belgium Machtelt Van der Straeten and Patricia met Soroptimist Lata Krishnan of SI Bombay Chembur. It was a friendly huddle and the warmth and cheer compounded with the presence of Aishwarya a young Law college student (prospective Soroptimist). SI Belgium is the Friendship Link club of SI Madurai. Machtelt and Patricia were on a tour of North India and due to exit to Brussels from Mumbai. While in Mumbai they met SI club members from Mumbai. Anitha Rajarajan, Founder President of SI Madurai initiated this meeting. We appreciate the efforts of Anitha to have made this meeting possible. It was easy talking to Machtelt and Patricia. We discussed the good work done by Soroptimist all over the world. Machtelt talked about a joint initiative with SI Madurai where they supported their Smart Class project for a period of 3 years. Machtelt explained how they as Soroptimists focused on fundraising activities as a club activity to support the good work of their Friendship Links. They were amazed to see how we in India actually connect with the target audience and implement projects in totality. We do thiswith the efforts of Soroptimists, friends, friendship Links, other organizations and NGOs. The meeting lasted for two hours. Amidst the excited discussion were selfies, pictures, laughter and hugs.
SI Belgium Machtelt Van der Straeten will return to India early 2019. This time they will be touring South India. They will visit their Friendship Link club SI Madurai and the good Soroptimist work will go on…
